The above mentioned positions are available in the Marketing and Tourism department at Robben Island Museum. The Information & Switchboard and Ticket Sales officer are responsible for promoting the RIWHS through dispensing of appropriate information to the client and sell tickets.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• The ticket sales officers will assist with the sales of tickets and day to day administration in the Ticket Sales Unit;
• Information and switchboard officer will be responsible to provide visitors with information and services about RIM and ensure their visit is safe and efficient.
Requirements:
• National Diploma in Tourism, Marketing, Public Relations, Events;
• Strong attention to deal;
• Hard working;
• Customer Services orientated;
• Computer Literacy;
• Fluency in 2 official languages.

The above mentioned position is available in the Public Heritage Education Department at Robben Island Museum.
Reporting to the Unit Manager Tour Guiding the incumbent will be responsible to relate the multi- layered history of Robben Island Museum in a coherent professional manner to visitors and conduct research about the history of Robben Island Museum in relation to the history of SA and the world and combine the information in a story that gives visitors, to the Island, an opportunity to recognise and acknowledge Robben Island Museum’s socio-political history in relation to its natural and built environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:
• Referring to the tour schedule to obtain tour times and numbers;
• Verifying appropriate vehicle and driver are available, check tour guide equipment;
• Receiving tourists and assess their needs and co-ordinate the necessary arrangements (e.g. wheelchairs, prams);
• Acquainting the tourist with the tour structure, amenities and rules and regulations of RIM;
• Conducting the tour of Robben Island Museum highlighting information related to political history, history of the prison, history of the built and natural environment;
• Contextualising the history of the world and relate it to the history of Robben Island Museum;
• Managing stops during the tour;
• Searching for information relating to Robben Island Museum history and political issues;
• Participating in discussions, forums, meetings and training sessions within or outside Robben Island Museum;
• Discussing and expand information, design and implement information into the tour;
• General administrative duties.

Experience and Technical skills:
• Diploma/Degree in Tourism/History or Social Science
• First Aid certificate
• Ex-political Prisoners of Robben Island with knowledge on the history of the prison.
• One-year experience will be an advantage.
• Fluent in at least 2 SA official languages
• Foreign language – optional but an advantage
• Computer literacy
• Code 8 or code 10 drivers license- optional but an advantage

Tourism Promotion Assistant (6 Posts)

(i) Direct Entry Qualifications

Holder of Certificate in Wildlife Management, Tour Guiding or Tourism from a recognized institution. Fluency in Swahili, English and any of the following foreign languages: French, German, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish or Chinese. Must be computer literate.

(ii) Duties and Responsibilities
Receiving and attending tourists;
Guiding tourists/visitors on game viewing activities;
Collecting visitor statistics;
Preparing daily visitation report;
Conducting Park Interpretation to Visitors, including school groups and other educational parties;
Ensuring that visitors/tourists follow Park rules and regulations during their stay in the park;
Advising visitors on safety issues (in and outside the park);
Participating in the daily cleaning of the Park; and
Other relevant duties as may be assigned by Superior.
(iii) Salary Scale: TNPSS C

iv) Age limit: Not above 35 years of age
