Senior Lecturer - Leadership & Self Development
Main purpose of this role: To ensure the relevance and continuity of the subject discipline called Leadership and Self Development at TSIBA

Core Responsibilities
● Hold the integrity of the curriculum (Degree and Postgraduate Certificate & Learnership levels) in terms of content, standard and relevance
● Responsible for articulating and ensuring scaffolding and integration within own subject area and between other majors (Entrepreneurship specifically) within TSIBA qualifications.
● Responsible for the design, delivery, assessment, analysis and administration of assigned courses in line with quality assurance guidelines
● Responsible for the management of strategic relationships with lecturers and tutors
● Responsible for nurturing and maintaining an external network of subject matter and curriculum stakeholders including moderators, corporate partners, donors and sponsors.
Key Performance Areas
1. Curriculum design
● Design and update curriculum with due consideration for market requirements to ensure market-led offerings
● Network with relevant stakeholders to develop appropriate and relevant
Ensure that curriculum meets quality assurance and regulatory requirements
2. Curriculum delivery
● Lecture and ensure the delivery of quality programmes through monitoring and evaluation of courses within subject stream
● Conduct regular analysis of trends and report on trends related to course delivery. The analysis includes but is not limited to pass rates, throughput, etc.
● Teaches on assigned courses and is engaged in tutoring to experience challenges in delivery first-hand
3. Quality assurance
● Complies with all academic deadlines as communicated by the Academic Officer and the Dean
● Complies with all ad-hoc requests from Management to submit progress reports on assigned courses
● Submits one semester and/or one annual report per course including actual pass and throughput results; a year-on-year analysis and recommendations for improvement on each course
4. Relationship management and Networking
● Establishes and maintains relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
● Holds regular meetings with corporate partners, volunteers, pro-bono lecturers, the academic team and external curriculum advisors

Experience and Qualifications:

● Academic knowledge about the field of leadership and self-development
● Some lecturing and/or tutoring experience preferred.

Accept full-time responsibility under the leadership of the Dean as a member of the Faculty management structure (in consultation with the relevant academic departments and academic leadership and management) for the School’s academic programmes and research, as well as the service delivery that is unique to the School.
Establish and maintain the required infrastructure and decision-making structure; responsible for the overarching applicable support functions at the Faculty/University in consultation with the other Heads of Schools, Dean and Deputy Dean.
Liaise with the relevant authorities regarding the optimal utilisation of service platforms, academic hospitals and the private sector for the School’s academic programmes, research and community service in consultation with the other Heads of Schools, Dean and Deputy Dean.

Manage the strategic and day-to-day affairs of the School for Allied Health Professions within the Faculty of Health Sciences under the leadership of the Dean – apply sound leadership and managerial skills.
Contribute to academic and / or clinical training programme of relevant discipline of the incumbent.
Relevant PhD in one of the following disciplines: Exercise and Sports Science, Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Optometry or Physiotherapy.
Management experience in an academic and/or clinic service department in the Faculty and/or academic hospital.
Proven academic and research stature and expertise in an academic environment.


Applicants must be appointed on the level of a Senior Lecturer or higher within any of the designated departments/units/divisions of the School for Allied Health Professions.

DUTIES
E-Tutors will have the following online duties:
•Facilitate delivery of tutorials.

REQUIREMENTS
To be considered as an E-tutor, you must meet the following requirements:
•Not be a Unisa Fixed Term or Permanent staff member.
•Ongoing access to Internet connection at your own cost.

•Own  copies  of  software  packages  that  may  be  required  for  teaching  e.g.  Internet  browsers, word processing etc.

The Department of Industrial Engineering focuses on the following areas of research to improve global competitiveness: Operations Research, Machine Learning, and Data Science in Industrial Engineering; Operations Management and Logistics; Advanced Manufacturing; and Engineering and Technology Management.

The successful candidate will be expected to keep abreast of the latest academic content and practical applications in the areas where they are deployed to ensure relevance and sustainability of the department.

This is a fixed-term appointment, tailored for a prospective PhD student, (i.e. who has completed or is in the process of completing a suitable Master’s degree, and wishes to pursue a PhD, or who has already started a PhD) in Operations Research and the interface to Machine Learning and Data Analytics. The maximum term is five years, but this can be tailored to shorter periods to suit individual requirements. The incumbent will report to a senior researcher in the above specialisation area, assist with research and lecturing duties, and thereby contribute towards expanding the research footprint of Operations Research in Industrial Engineering.

Duties:
- Assistance with the academic guidance and management of a specific research group;
- Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching;
- Supervising postgraduate students;
- Conducting research for and technology transfer to the industry;
- Completing the PhD during the term of the position, to expand the academic footprint of the Operations Research focus group.

Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering;
- A Master’s degree (completed or planned for completion by the end of the 2018 academic year) in Industrial Engineering with a focus on the interface between Operations Research, Data Analytics and Machine Learning;
- An excellent academic record;
- The academic ability to present a wide range of Operations Research and Data Analytics modules in the Industrial Engineering undergraduate and postgraduate curricula;
- Past exposure to research in the above area of specialisation;
- Excellent computer programming skills;
- Affiliation and active participation in an Operations Research scholarly society;
- Good verbal and written communication skills;
- A desire and commitment to proceed with a PhD, focusing on the above area of specialisation.

Recommendations:
- Substantial progress towards the attainment of a PhD on the interface between Operations Research, Data Analytics and Machine Learning;
- A proven record of research potential, including previous thesis work and other publications;
- The ability to facilitate and support existing research activities within the above area of specialisation;
- The ability to supervise postgraduate students on topics within the above area of specialisation;
- Experience in tutoring or teaching Operations Research and/or Data Analytics modules at undergraduate or postgraduate levels;
- Good organisational skills;
- Fluency in Afrikaans and English.
