Job Purpose   
South African Airways Technical (SAAT) require an incumbent to manage and direct the online and airside service and maintenance section insuring that Line/Airside Maintenance on SAA and customer aircrafts is carried out in accordance with all procedures and airworthiness procedures and standards, including health, safety and environmental regulations whilst meeting schedule demands and service level agreements.

Principal Accountabilities   
1. To manage and implement technical handling agreements for line maintenance on SAA aircraft in order to ensure delivery as per agreement
a) Manage the airside services rendered to aircrafts within the specified turnaround time and budget
b) Develop contingency plans in order to ensure the provision of excellent service and uncompromised airside service
c) Track problem components to ensure all work is carried out as per the scheduled and unscheduled maintenance
d) Oversee the licensing of staff in line with regulatory requirements, track the licences and ensure the scheduling of re-currency training whenever needed
e) Update and amend the workbook instruction manual
f) Manage the Travelling Technicians and deploy where technical support is needed
g) Oversee documentation of all line maintenance issues during arrival and departure checks as well as any dangerous leaks noticed and resolved
h) Manage the repair of replaceable components and line replaceable units
Refer to MEL whenever needed to ensure that no unnecessary maintenance is carried out in order to prevent unnecessary aircraft delays
i) Review applicable technical handling contracts and SLA’s and manage the service to ensure that these needs are met
j) Produce QA and QC reports as required

2. To establish and manage the sections’ budget in line with SAAT Operations’ objectives
a) Contribute to establishing the annual budget, plan and review the capital budget in line with SAAT operations’ strategy/objectives and produce reports to track expenditure as required
b) Manage invoicing processes in order to ensure timeous and efficient generation of correct invoices and minimise cash flow issues

3. To enforce compliance to Quality Standards and Regulations in order to minimise SAAT’s exposure to risk
a) Enforce adherence to all regulatory, safety and compliance requirements
b) Manage delivery of work in line with the relevant regulatory requirements and where required, put contingency plans in place to reduce risk for the organisation
c) Continually seek ways to improve performance, efficiencies and maximize the use of resources. Track performance, especially deficiencies, and put contingency plans in place to prevent a reoccurrence of the same deficiency
d) Manage the environment and keep it at the required standard of health and safety and comply with policies and procedures, as well as client SLA’s
e) Oversee safety training and aware campaigns in order to ensure that staff are kept up to date


4. To maintain customer satisfaction at highest level in order to maintain relationships
a) Manage relationships and service levels to ensure that customers receive the highest level of service and quality workmanship at all times in accordance with applicable technical handling contracts and SLA’s
b) Address all customer queries and complaints, and apply appropriate solutions ensuring customer satisfaction
c) Maintain Customer feedback reports and monitor service levels
d) Oversee safety training and aware campaigns in order to ensure that staff are kept up to date

5. To manage the section’s human resources in line with SAAT’s HR policies and procedures
a) Recruit staff per the section’s staffing demand
b) Identify the training needs of the section’s staff and oversee their development in order to ensure and maintain competence
c) Develop performance contracts for all direct reports in line with the Planning department’s objectives, conduct performance appraisals to measure productivity and meet objectives
d) Initiate appropriate Labour Relation action within the section where necessary
e) Motivate employees’ within the section to ensure high morale and improve productivity
f) Adhere to all HR policies and procedures
g) Maintain regular staff meetings and feedback sessions

Qualifications & Experience  
Relevant Degree, N6, or equivalent and 7 years’ Operations Management experience in general Aviation of which 4 years in a Supervisory position and 3 years in an environment with a large headcount and with union involvement
(These years of experience may have been gained simultaneously)

OR

Relevant Diploma plus 9 years’ Operations Management experience in general Aviation of which 5 years in a Supervisory position and 5 years in an environment with a large headcount and with union involvement
(These years of experience may have been gained simultaneously)

OR

12 years’ years’ Operations Management experience in general Aviation of which 7 years in a Supervisory position and 5 years in an environment with a large headcount and with union involvement
(These years of experience may have been gained simultaneously)
