Acacia Mining Tanzania Job Vacancies, Location North Mara Mine

MINING MANAGER – UNDERGROUND
Acacia Mining seeks to employ a Manager – Underground Mining based at North Mara Mine in Tanzania. This role reports to the General Manager and the role holder will be accountable to provide leadership to the Underground Mining operations team by providing technical guidance, systems and strategies that deliver industry best practice in Underground Mining to meet North Mara Mine medium to long term targets effectively, efficiently and timely. The incumbent will also have to ensure the safe and efficient operations in Mining and the implementation of an extensive and ongoing training and succession planning to ensure business continuity and the localization initiatives are achieved in a progressive and seamless manner.

This is a permanent role, with the work roster being six weeks on and three weeks off.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES

    Safety:

o Visibly supports and drives Acacia Safety Policies and Standards.

o Visibly integrates safe work practices into Commercial activities.

o Ensure compliance to all regulatory health, safety and environmental policies and procedures.

o Provide the effective guidance to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to safety and environmental standards that exceed worldwide industry standards and any applicable legislation.

    Mining Business Improvement Plan:
o Ensure 100% achievement on the monthly, quarterly and annual mining plan (ore and waste).

o Below budged $/t cost on major consumables.

o Reduce safety incidences and achieve Site TRIFR.

o Ensure the increase in productivity for production rigs.

o Optimize “current” mine opportunities, mine to mill, maintenance, recovery and mill throughput.

o Ensure an increase in Operational Effectiveness and Efficiency.

o Ensure material risk is well managed with key (high) risks on the whole of business matrix achieving a rating of well managed and effective critical controls with medium residual risk.

o Ensure enhancement of ground support and stability and maintain zero incident rate in Underground.

o Ensure improvement in plan accuracy (short term planning/ medium planning/ long term planning).

o Complete LOM plan (volume, tonnes and grade of ore mined, mill feed and gold production) submitted on time.

    Ensure Operational Systems exist, and are auditable with the areas of improvement identified and implemented after audits:
o Safety Systems

o Mining Communication

o Mining Information

o Mine Dispatching System

o Mine Planning System

o Mining Contractor Management

o Backfilling systems

o Technical services systems

o Ensure compliance with the systems and that the systems help key users to get their jobs done.

    Employee Relations Climate:

o Reduction in Underground Mining employees’ turnover and absenteeism rates.

o Improvement in Employees’ survey results/ feedback.

o Improvement in employees’ ownership toward Company property protection.

o Employees agree that the mining management add value to their daily work.

o Employees work activities are aligned as planned.

    Company legal ethics and compliance policies and procedures:
o Ensure that anti-corruption, human rights and code of conduct training is completed annually by team members.

o Ensure that team members have completed ‘Potentially Exposed Person’ attestations and completed anti-corruption questionnaires with due diligence on appropriate individuals identified as PEPs.

o Compliant to Internal Controls of Anti-Corruption, Human Rights in area of responsibility.

o Internal Communication on Code of Conduct, Anti-Corruption, Human Rights in areas of responsibility.

    Team Leadership and Membership:
o Objectives are met by team members.

o Completion of performance monitoring and appraisal meetings.

o Existence of Development Plans for team members, ensuring that milestones are achieved.

o Improvement in the Culture Behavioural Gap between the current and desired behaviours of team members.

o Increase in team members promoted internally (succession planning).


ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Qualification Requirements:

    BSc Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent Technical qualification.
    Management qualification will be beneficial.

Experience Requirements:
    Minimum of 15 years progressive experience in Underground Hard Rock Mining.
    At least 5 years recent experience in the Gold Mining Industry.
    5 years’ experience in a Managerial role.
    Experience in Mining operations and project development.

Skills / Knowledge Requirements:
    Systems design and implementation.
    Mining operation management.
    Strategic and short term mine planning.
    Mining equipment selection and performance.
    Contracts and Contractor management.
    Computer Skills in Microsoft Suite – Excel, Word, Email, Pronto, Pi, Rosemount DCS.
    Time management, scheduling and planning, Scenario planning.
    Analysis and interpretation of data, troubleshooting, and ability to use Business Improvement tools and processes.
    Project Management.
    Coaching.
    Strong conceptual thinking ability.
    High level of leadership and interpersonal skills.
    Strong commercial acumen.
    Effective communication.
    Knowledge of Tanzanian Customs and Legal processes.
